About Diane Smullen

Born and raised in Alberta, Diane’s life has always revolved around horses. From an early age, she developed a deep connection with these incredible animals, and that passion has shaped every chapter of her journey. Over the years, Diane has had the privilege of working with horses across North America and beyond. Each place has enriched her skills, experiences, and understanding of the equine world.

Her work has taken her from the sweeping ranch lands of Alberta to the heart of Kentucky’s thoroughbred country. She has spent time training and managing horses under the sunny skies of Florida and Louisiana, and even ventured overseas to Ireland, where the horse culture is steeped in history and tradition. In Ontario, Diane has worked in both rural ranch settings and at the historic Fort Erie and Woodbine racetracks, developing a strong network and a broad base of hands-on experience in everything from breeding and training to rehabilitation and care.

These years on the road have given Diane not just technical knowledge, but a deep appreciation for the trust, patience, and partnership that horses require. With each stop, she has brought those lessons home and now, she’s proud to share them at Bilby Ranch. Whether you're looking to board your horse, book a lesson, or if your own beloved horse needs a little more attention, Diane welcomes you to visit. There’s nothing like the bond between horse and human and she’s passionate about helping others discover it for themselves.
